Payment timing depends on the governing employment framework and the type of amount. Record the contract end date and ask the employer for a written payment date rather than relying on an informal promise.
Understand the general federal 14-day rule, ADGM timing and the steps to take when a settlement is delayed.
What still needs evidenceYour jurisdiction, contract terms, dates, wage records and any disputed employer record still need to be verified before the result can be treated as a claim.
Federal private-sector timing
The UAE Government's end-of-service guidance states that outstanding wages, other entitlements and gratuity are generally to be paid within 14 days after the employment contract ends. The date the contract ends may differ from the date a resignation email was sent.
ADGM and DIFC require separate checks
ADGM guidance generally refers to termination amounts being paid within 21 calendar days. DIFC employees should check the employment payment and DEWS withdrawal processes separately because a scheme account is not identical to an employer payroll settlement.
Create a dated record
Keep the termination notice, last working day confirmation, settlement statement, bank statement and follow-up emails. A clear timeline helps distinguish a short administrative delay from a disputed or unpaid entitlement.
Escalate through the correct channel
For ordinary MOHRE-regulated employment, use the official labour or salary complaint service when appropriate. Free-zone, ADGM and DIFC employees may need a different authority or dispute route.
Questions to verify before acting
Answer these from original records. If one answer is uncertain, keep it as an open issue rather than guessing an input.
- What is the legally recorded contract end date?
- Which items will be paid through payroll and which through a scheme?
- What exact date has finance scheduled the transfer?
- Has the work permit cancellation changed the payment plan?
- Which authority handles a delay under my jurisdiction?
- Which original record proves the amount or date used?
Frequently asked questions
Is the 14-day rule universal across the UAE?
No. It is a federal private-sector rule. ADGM, DIFC and other categories can have different rules and processes.
Does visa cancellation replace payment?
No. Immigration and employment-payment steps are connected operationally but are not the same obligation.
Should I wait indefinitely if HR says finance is processing it?
Keep a reasonable written record and use the correct official channel if the applicable payment period passes without a clear resolution.
