A salary dispute becomes easier to solve when it is split into five facts: which wage definition applies, when the amount became due, what work or leave period it covers, what was actually paid, and why any deduction was made. One salary number or one daily divisor should not be reused blindly across gratuity, overtime, leave and notice.

Separate basic wage from the total wage package
Basic wage and total wage are not interchangeable. The right input depends on the entitlement being checked, so preserve the contract and payslip breakdown before calculating anything.
- Record basic wage separately.
- List fixed allowances such as housing or transport separately.
- Keep commission, bonus and other variable payments as their own evidence lines.
- Do not calculate gratuity or overtime from the full package merely because it is the bank-credit amount.
Build a payroll chronology
For every affected month, show salary period, expected amount, due date, amount actually received, credit date and remaining difference. This distinguishes late salary from partial salary and contested deductions.
- Employment contract and amendments
- Payslips
- Bank or wage-card credits
- WPS/payroll records where applicable
- Written deduction or payroll explanations
Do not hide the daily-rate divisor
Different payroll and entitlement questions can use different wage bases or methods. A transparent calculation states both the numerator and divisor instead of presenting one 'UAE daily salary' as universal.
- State whether the number is basic wage or total wage.
- State whether 30 days, calendar days or another documented payroll method is being checked.
- For overtime, verify the statutory basic-wage hourly method separately.
- For an incomplete month, preserve joining or termination dates and the employer's proration policy.
Match the problem to the current official service
MOHRE's confidential salary complaint can fit a wage-payment concern; a broader labour complaint may be needed when the dispute also includes deductions, termination, leave, gratuity or other contract rights.
- Check the live 2026 WPS and MOHRE service pages before filing.
- Keep identity and work-permit details ready.
- List each disputed salary month separately.
- Do not combine a final-settlement dispute into an unexplained salary total.
Example: why AED 10,000 salary can produce different correct-looking rates
AED 10,000 ÷ 30 is AED 333.33 per day. But that does not mean AED 333.33 is the right input for gratuity or overtime. If the basic wage is AED 6,000, the federal traditional-gratuity formula starts from AED 6,000, and overtime likewise requires the relevant basic-wage method. Always label the purpose of the rate.
For a late or missing salary, quantify the gap
Write “June salary: AED 8,500 due; AED 5,000 received; AED 3,500 outstanding” rather than only “salary unpaid.” If multiple months are affected, repeat the line for each period. That structure is more useful for payroll correction and for an official complaint.
For final salary, keep ordinary payroll separate from exit benefits
The last payroll period can include salary through the final working day, but gratuity, unused leave, notice compensation and deductions should remain separate settlement lines. Use the full settlement calculator when employment is ending.
