Visa cancellation without losing sight of your final settlement

A practical sequence for ordinary employer-sponsored employment. Exact timing and grace periods depend on the issuing authority, residence category and personal circumstances.

1

Confirm the last working day

Keep the termination or resignation record and confirm whether notice is worked, waived or compensated.

2

Review the final settlement

Check salary, leave, gratuity or scheme contributions, notice and deductions before signing a receipt, release or cancellation acknowledgement.

3

Complete the work-permit step

For ordinary MOHRE-regulated employment, the employer normally completes the work-permit cancellation or transfer process first.

4

Complete residence cancellation or status change

ICP generally handles federal-emirate residence services, while GDRFA handles Dubai. The current service and residence category determine the exact process.

5

Check dependants, insurance and the next employer

Dependent residence, medical coverage, bank products and a new work permit can have separate deadlines and requirements.

Do not rely on one universal grace period. Check the cancellation document and current ICP or GDRFA status for the specific residence category.
